| After earning a Bachelor's Degree from the University of New Hampshire, Mr. Fort went on to obtain his Master's Degree from Texas A&M University. While in Texas he met his future wife whose family lived at Smith Mountain Lake.
"The first time I came here I knew that this is where I wanted to raise my family," Mr. Fort said. They married and moved to the lake shortly thereafter. PD&M, Inc., General Contractors was started in the early 1980s and has been building custom homes at Smith Mountain Lake ever since. One of the company's cornerstones is a firm commitment to the community. Mr. Fort is a member of the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce, the Tri-County Lake Administrative Commission (TLAC) and chaired the annual Take Pride in Smith Mountain Lake Cleanup in 2000. Mr. Fort is also a long-time member of the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association having served in every leadership position, including President in 1998. In 2002, he chaired their annual Home Show. He has also been a Director for the Home Builders Association of Virginia. In January 2002, PD&M was voted the top home builder at the lake by readers of the SmithMountainLaker.com magazine. |
